ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE PUBLIC AND AUTHORITIES FROM THE TURKESTAN ISLAMIC ASSOCIATION
Our 31-year-old kinsman Yakup Celil, residing in Sefaköy, Istanbul, was taken from his home on the morning of February 24, 2026, and transferred to the Removal Center. According to the information we have, it is a matter of moments before he is taken to the airport and deported.
ISTANBUL – One more of our kinsmen, who fled the systematic genocide in East Turkestan and took refuge in Turkey, which he saw as a mother’s embrace, is facing uncertainty and the threat of deportation.
Yakup Celil, a 31-year-old Uyghur Turk who was detained by security forces from his residence in Istanbul Sefaköy at around 05:00 AM on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, is currently being held in a removal center. The family of Celil, who is the father of a 3-year-old child and a 7-month-old baby, is waiting for justice to be served in great desperation along with their children.
Indirect Extradition Risk via the “Third Country” Formula
As the Turkestan Islamic Association, we know from our field experience that; our East Turkestani brothers detained in Turkey sometimes face the risk of being delivered to the Chinese administration directly, and sometimes indirectly by being sent to a “third country.”
Information has reached us that the process of “transfer to the airport” has been initiated for Yakup Celil at this moment. This situation means our brother being dragged into an unknown fate at any moment.
Call from the Turkestan Islamic Association
On behalf of our association, we call upon the authorities and the public:
- Do Not Be a Partner to Oppression: The extradition of Yakup Celil to China or a third country within China’s sphere of influence means putting his life directly in danger.
- Protect Family Integrity: Leaving behind a weeping wife and two small babies in need of their father fits neither conscience nor human rights.
- Legal Process Must Be Conducted Transparently: This detention and deportation attempt, carried out without presenting any concrete justification, must be stopped.
